Our highlights from the International Builders' Show 2024
Last week we were fortunate to spend time away as a team at the NAHB International Builders’ Show (IBS) in Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Convention Centre. We had an amazing time and there were so many opportunities for growth and learning for each member of the team. With over 1,500 exhibits, the team was spoilt for choice with the opportunity to learn more about new product lines and suppliers. However, we particularly loved attending the education sessions that the show had to offer.
There were numerous education sessions to choose from, across various topic streams including:
Architecture & Design
Building Techniques & Strategies
Custom Home Building & Remodeling
Research & Trends
Project Management
Some of the incredible sessions that resonated with the team were:
How to Manage & Exceed Client Expectations From Pre-Construction Through Completion
Strategies for Bidding, Change Orders & Allowances
Improving Jobsite Productivity
2024 Design & Product Trends
Providing a high level of service to our clients is important to us, and these sessions were invaluable in allowing us the opportunity to step away from our daily tasks and devote a decent amount of time to learning and developing our skills, discovering new information, and understanding new and innovative ways of doing things. These were a few takeaways/special moments from the trip:
Balancing Innovation and Affordability when Building Green
Some of the sessions that resonated [and sparked exciting conversations] with the team revolved around green building. As you know, our focus is on building high step code, high-performance custom homes, but we are also conscious of how financially challenging this can be.
Although we love learning about new technologies, systems and equipment that can be applied to/installed in homes to make them more energy efficient, we enjoy the challenge of building homes with high-quality, cost-effective materials that will future-proof your investment and expenditure further down the road.
Taking care of the little things before they become bigger things
Though there were many incredible speakers at IBS, one individual truly captured the attention of the entire team: J Bradley Scott (Brad) of Magleby Construction. Brad's presentation resonated deeply with the entire audience, and we gained even more insight with the follow-up questions from audience members.
Brad emphasized the importance of focusing on both the people and the small details in every project. He stressed the significance of addressing challenges promptly and advocating for open communication to ensure everyone feels included and informed throughout the process. Brad's insights served as the perfect reminder of the value of prioritizing transparency and attention to detail, which we prioritize as a company.
Expanding our network
While at the show we also had the chance to connect with suppliers and brands that we work with regularly such as BuilderTrend, Nichiha and Pella. Learning about new products and features directly from the team The opportunity to meet and converse with builders all across North America was a great opportunity to understand the North American market more broadly and understand the current climate in the building industry in different contexts.
See below for a few examples of some nice pieces that caught our eye when exploring the exhibits at the show:
Attending the International Builders’ Show was a great way to start the year and we’re grateful for the opportunity to attend. As we reflect on our experience at the IBS, we're reminded of the importance of continuous learning and adaptation in our ever-evolving industry.
If you’re interested in building a custom home on the Sunshine Coast, or have a large-scale renovation project you’d like to get off the ground.
